Camp Ridgedale Programs

The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is designed for students who have outgrown the camper experience and are ready to take the next step into leadership. This hands-on program helps teens grow in responsibility, communication, teamwork, and confidence through daily training, mentorship, and real leadership opportunities within camp activities.

CITs work alongside experienced staff to support younger campers while still enjoying the fun and community of camp life. Participants gain valuable life and leadership skills, complete volunteer service hours, and receive a certificate of completion and letter of recommendation. The CIT Program provides a supportive environment where teens can develop character, leadership abilities, and a heart for serving others.

CIT participants receive intentional leadership training through a combination of daily instruction, hands-on practice, and guided mentorship. Each day begins with focused leadership sessions where students learn practical skills such as communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, problem-solving, and positive behavior management. CITs are paired with experienced camp counselors who model leadership in real-time and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and encouragement. Throughout the day, CITs actively assist with cabin activities, lead select rotations, support camp-wide events, and help create a positive experience for younger campers, allowing them to immediately apply the skills they are learning.

Mentorship is a central part of the CIT experience, giving students a safe and supportive environment to grow in confidence, responsibility, and character. CITs participate in daily reflection and connection opportunities to evaluate their progress, celebrate successes, and set personal leadership goals. In addition to gaining valuable real-world leadership experience, CIT participants earn documented volunteer service hours that can be used for school, scholarship, or organizational requirements. Upon completion of the program, students also receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation, helping them build strong foundations for future leadership roles, academic opportunities, and employment experiences. Some graduates of the CIT Program have even gone on to become employees of Camp Ridgedale!
